"Historically, our organization has concentrated its efforts on preventing lung disease and improving health for everyone in the greater Sacramento area through grassroots local programs. Now 100% of all donations will be used locally."

On February 3, 2006, the American Lung Association of Sacramento-Emigrant Trails ended its affiliation with the national American Lung Association and became Breathe California of Sacramento-Emigrant Trails, The Clean Air and Healthy Lungs People.
The national American Lung Association is going through a restructuring that would have consolidated our local association into one state organization.
Our mission and programs are designed to prevent disease in our region through local grassroots asthma education, tobacco cessation programs and clean air initiatives. Our new organization will allow us to continue and enhance our local programs that, among other things, help to clean our air, educate the public on diagnosing and treating asthma, and reduce tobacco initiation among young people.
We teamed with four other former Lung Association affiliates to form Breathe California, a statewide network of independent affiliates, whose main objective is to better serve each of their respective regions to prevent lung disease and other breathing-related health issues through grassroots work in the community. By focusing all of our efforts, resources and expertise at the local level, the Breathe California affiliates will be able to expand current programming. This structure will also allow the affiliates to remain completely responsive to local lung health needs, while also collaborating to achieve common goals. The other Breathe California organizations are headquartered in Los Angeles, San Francisco, San Jose and Monterey.
As Breathe California of Sacramento-Emigrant Trails, we intend to continue our high level of activity towards making sure that every single breath citizens take in our community is a clean one. We are the same local non-profit organization with the same staff, volunteers and programs that have made such a positive impact in the Sacramento Region in cleaning our air and improving our health.
We wish the American Lung Association well in their national mission as we move forward with our community partners to strengthen and expand our local mission and local programs.
