Breathe California of Sacramento – Emigrant Trails is dedicated to healthy air and preventing lung and other air-pollution related diseases by partnering with youth, advocating public policy, supporting air pollution research, and educating the public.

Breathe California of Sacramento-Emigrant Trails has been a leader in fighting for clean air, healthy lungs and a tobacco-free future since 1917.

We are the only Sacramento-based organization that spends 100% of every dollar raised locally to support and expand our innovative programs, which improve the health of our residents.

With the continued support and dedication of people like you, we promise to continue making the Sacramento Region a healthier place to live and breathe.

Thank you to our Centennial Sponsors for their year-round support of our programs

Brown Bag Lunch Lecture: High Speed Rail in California

We will host a Brown Bag discussion Tuesday, Oct 7th, 2008 noon - 1:30 in the Cal EPA building, 1st floor Training Room. Carrie Pourvahidi, Deputy Director, High Speed Rail Authority, will discuss Proposition 1A - the High Speed Rail (HSR) bond measure scheduled to appear on the November 2008 ballot.

A bond measure for HSR in California will inject $9.95 billion to create a statewide network of high speed trains throughout California. HSR will be powered by clean sources of electricity and it is projected that large numbers of people will turn to HSR as an alternative to higher costs of air and auto travel. We know that over 70% of our air pollution in this region comes from mobile sources. If California builds even a minimal high-speed rail system, use of rail transport instead of air and automobile travel could produce considerable reductions in the amount of greenhouse gasses emitted per year.

Thanks to the sponsors of this event SMAQMD and California Wellness Foundation and special thanks to the California High Speed Rail Authority and CAL EPA.
