Now in its 18th year, the Hackademy Awards is a youth-oriented advocacy event designed to educate teens and increase awareness about the prevalent, negative influence of tobacco use in movies.

During the awards ceremony our TUTD volunteers aka “The Hackademy” present Thumbs Up! Awards to movies, actors and actresses that either did not use tobacco onscreen or portrayed the realistic, harmful health effects of using tobacco. Thumbs Down! Awards are given to those who most glamorized tobacco onscreen.

Despite its humble beginnings as a simple press conference, the Hackademy Awards have since evolved into an exciting Hollywood-style red carpet event. As in years past, members of the Hackademy will arrive in a limo, walk the red carpet, smile for paparazzi and sign autographs before the formal awards ceremony; however, this year we are increasing our outreach efforts with the addition of a brand new, teen-friendly after-party featuring music, dancing, games and giveaways. Local youth from across our community are invited to attend this event for free, thanks to our generous event sponsors.

The funds raised by this event support and expand not only our youth tobacco prevention programs, but also our clean air and lung health programs, which help make our community a healthier place to live and breathe.
