2017 Clean Air Art Contest

Contest Details

Open to public, private or homeschool students grades 9 - 12 living in Sacramento and its surrounding counties.

Winning artwork will be on view at the Clean Air Awards in May 2017 where it will be seen by 300+ attendees. The artwork will travel to other venues throughout the region.

  • June - September 2017: Clean Air Art displayed at the Crocker Art Museum, Student + Community Gallery.
  • September - October 2017: Clean Air Art Exhibition on view at the Verge Center for the Arts.

Winners will be chosen by local artists. Cash prizes will be awarded.

Accepted media: photography and video, 2-D fine arts (drawing, painting, printmaking), 3-D fine arts (ceramics, glass, sculpture), graphic design.

Artwork will be returned to students by December 2017.


Award Categories

Due to space constraints, all artwork must be submitted digitally. Only finalists will be asked to submit original pieces. The theme of the contest is Clean Air. Entries will be divided into four categories.

Photography and Video

Photography must be ready to hang with an overall size of not to exceed 11”X14”. Photo entries may not include borrowed, copied or shared images. Video entries must be in DVD format and not more than 3 minutes in length.

2-D Fine Arts

All media accepted. Entries must be able to hang on a flat surface and arrive hanging-ready.

3-D Ceramics, Glass and Sculpture

Reused/recycled materials are encouraged. Entries may not be more than 16” inches high, 16” wide or weigh more than 10 lbs.

Graphic Design

Entries must be no larger than 8 ½ “X 11.”


Submission Details

The deadline to submit artwork for judging is March 17, 2017 by 4:30 PM.

  • All entries must be the original work of the student
  • One submission per artist

Prizes

First Place Winner in each category will receive $100. Each prize winner will be invited to attend the Clean Air Awards in May 2017 as guests of Breathe California of Sacramento-Emigrant Trails. Students will be recognized at the event.
