Renata Atayeva

Renata joined the BREATHE family when she was just 14 years old, starting as a freshman in high school and eventually becoming the Youth Programs Associate upon graduating college. Moving to Sacramento after spending her early childhood in Ukraine was an eye-opening experience for Renata. She became very sensitive to air pollution and secondhand smoke after seeing her mother develop asthma and family members suffer from tobacco addiction. As the Youth Programs Associate, she feels like she can make a difference. “The more Thumbs Up Thumbs Down goes on, the bigger it gets. We cover more schools, like Folsom, New Tech, Howard Johnson, etc. We’re spreading the work all around about the glamorization of tobacco, as well as new products like e-cigarettes and vaping.” Renata’s message to other health organizations is, “Having youth programs at organizations is the best thing you can do. Give youth a voice. ‘Cuz they’re our future!”
